AUTHOR’ INTRODUCTION
Brigadier Safdar Ali Shah did his Master of Arts (MA) in English Literature and joined the Army in 1972. He graduated from the Pakistan Military Academy with a Sword of Honor and was commissioned into the Army Education Corps. He has served as an instructor at the Military College; Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul, and Military Institute of Languages, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He has also served as a staff officer in various headquarters and organizations including Inter Services Public Relations Directorate and National Defence College, Islamabad.
Besides Masters Degree in English literature, he holds B.Sc. (Honors) degree in War Studies and Interpreter ship in German Language. He is also a graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta. He has been the Principal of Army Burn Hall College for Girls. Presently, he is serving as the Director of Studies at the Pakistan Military Academy.
He is author of two books: History of National Defence College and a collection of Punjabi Poetry (under publication).
ABSTRACT
Military College Jhelum (MCJ) is one of the oldest Military as well as academic institutions of the country. It has the distinction of being the only residential public School and College run by Pakistan Army. MCJ was founded by the Prince of Wales on 3rd March 1922 and named as King George Royal Indian Military School. It started functioning on 15 September 1925. Soon after the independence, this College won the recognition of being a quality public School/College of Pakistan. It was assigned the role of a feeder institution for Pakistan Military Academy and was renamed as Military College Jhelum in 1956. The College has served the nation with spirit of commitment and unwavering devotion. The College roll of honor radiates with names of martyrs and heroes (serving/retired officers) in echelons of civil and military establishments.
Military College Jhelum has been very successful in fulfilling its obligation as a feeder institution to Pakistan Military Academy. The selection rate of MCJ cadets at the Inter Services Selection Boards is almost 75-80%. In pursuance of its mission, the College emphatically follows a program of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which developmental/ physical abilities of the potential leaders. To inculcate leadership qualities, events like sports, hobbies, clubs educational visits, lectures by Guest Speakers are organized/ held regularly.
The College competes in educational field with leading educational institutions of the country. Military College cadets have been producing outstanding results in Board Examinations and usually have a sizeable share among the top positions. Our students produced an unprecedented result in the year 2000, where all the 82 candidates secured A-l grades in Matric examination. In year 2001, 10 of MCJ cadets were among the first 9 positions of the Board including first 4 positions.
MCJ is one of the finest institutions of the country. It has gained this enviable status through strict quality control in the fields of academics, character building and sports. The College aims at serving the nation with more commitment devotion in future as well.
